Welcome

The Overfield Tavern is a two-story, hewn-log building constructed in 1808 by Benjamin and Margaret Overfield.

The Overfield Tavern served as a frontier tavern, inn, courthouse, and general gathering place for the community. It was once the center of action in the small community of Troy, Ohio—a place to meet area residents and travelers, to find society, comfortable lodging, and good food and drink.

The County Court met in an upstairs room of the tavern from 1808 to 1811. The tavern also housed the local Masonic Lodge, one of the first in the state of Ohio.

The building is the oldest structure in Troy and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is currenly open to the public as a museum featuring an extensive collection of late-18th- and early-19th-century artifacts reflecting daily life on the Ohio frontier prior to 1850.
